Kevin B. Chavous, 27, was arrested Friday on charges of soliciting a prostitute. Chavous is a Democratic nominee for the Ward 7 D.C. Council seat, seeking to unseat incumbent Yvette M. Alexander (D). A police spokeswoman confirmed the arrest and said the incident occurred shortly after midnight at the block of K Street NE. According to officer Tisha Gant, Chavous has been charged with solicitation for lewd and immoral purposes. Court records were not immediately available.

Chavous’ campaign manager, Lamont Harrell, said the arrest was part of a “sting operation.” “Kevin was clearly targeted and was not soliciting in any way,” Harrell said. He added that Chavous intends to hire an attorney to fight the charges.
