D.C. Council candidate David Grosso suggests Michael Brown campaign account be frozen

David Grosso, a D.C. Council candidate, is requesting the Office of Campaign Finance (OCF) to freeze incumbent Michael Brown’s campaign account until it completes an ongoing audit of his finances. An independent from Brookland, Grosso is increasing the pressure on both OCF and Brown following the office’s controversial decision, which permits Brown to temporarily conceal his campaign spending from public view.

In July, Brown, an at-large independent, reported to the media and police that he believes “a significant” amount of money may have been stolen from his re-election account, which led D.C. police officials and the OCF to launch separate inquires. Grosso has argued that allowing Brown to shield his spending puts challengers, including himself, at a major disadvantage in a race for votes in the November 6, election. Grosso said that he is trying to ensure that “there is a fair process.”

“It just seems completely unfair that everyone has to file these reports, when they are exempt from doing so,” said Grosso. “We only have 70 days left to the election…That just seems blatantly unfair.”
