D.C. cathedral rings bells in celebration of gay marriage
In support of the Supreme Court’s decision on gay marriage, the National Cathedral, as well as other Washington churches, is ringing its church bells.
Richard Weinberg, a cathedral spokesperson, says the bells will ring on Wednesday for 45 minutes to an hour. Bells will also ring at Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, Unitarian, and other Christian churches.
The National Cathedral will also hold a prayer service for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender families on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to celebrate the ruling.
The church is ringing its bells “to celebrate the extension of federal marriage equality to all the same-sex couples modeling God’s love in lifelong covenants.” Says cathedral dean Rev. Gary Hall.
Halls says that Supreme Court’s ruling should be a call for all Christians to embrace religious marriage equality.
