Abundance of deer meat provides meals for homeless

Butchers have consistently been removing highway deer carcasses and turning them into meals provided for Washington’s homeless population. Butcher Michael Preast has been volunteering his services for over 10 years and believes it is important to provide those in need with a source of protein.

Preast takes deer carcasses and turns them into venison chops, roasts, and burgers. In the past, he has butchered up to 1,500 pounds per week. He states, “It’s good to be involved in something that was giving back to the community, in the scheme of things, we’re helping.”
