Adrian Peterson, running back for Minnesota Vikings will be suspended without pay for the rest of the 2014 season, announced the NFL Tuesday. Peterson will not be reinstated before April 15. Peterson’s suspension is connected to a May incident where Peterson used “abusive discipline” on his four-year-old son. Charged with felony child abuse, Peterson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless assault earlier in November. He has been kept off the field, although still on the payroll, since September, when the team placed him on the exempt/commissioner’s permission list. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently created a “baseline discipline” system for first offences of assault, battery or domestic violence to deal with a league rife with similar incidents. Peterson plans to file an appeal, says NFL Players Association.
