A Northern Virginia man caught trying to join the Islamic State could be sentenced to somewhere between five to 20 years in prison. Twenty-nine-year-old Joseph Farrokh’s sentencing is scheduled for Friday in federal court in Alexandria. Farrokh pleaded guilty to trying to travel to the Islamic State to join fighters there. He was arrested at the Richmond airport in January. Court papers reveal in detail how Farrokh quickly became radicalized. Prosecutors are seeking a minimum 16-year prison sentence; the defense is asking for five years.
