Virginia Board revokes pharmacy’s prescription permit

The Virginia Board of Pharmacy has revoked a Richmond pharmacy’s privilege to allocate prescriptions after an investigation showed lost, expired and mislabeled medications and other miscellaneous problems. Westbury Pharmacy’s prescription permit was suspended by the board on Friday and scheduled a hearing for May 29. A thorough investigation raised questions (and concerns) about the pharmacy’s ability to assure the quality and safety of medications. Issues relating to drug storage and security may play a part in the loss of more than 50,000 tablets of controlled substances. The pharmacy announced that they overhauled operations, after it was discovered that a janitor had misappropriated substantial amounts of pain medications. The pharmacy added that other departments will remain open for business.
