U.Va. murder victim’s parents work to protect others

0

Two years ago, Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington was murdered at the University of Virginia’s Charlottesville campus. Harrington’s killer was never found, and there are no suspects in the case. Morgan’s parents, Jill and Daniel Harrington, have devoted themselves to more than just solving their daughter’s murder. They have set up a website to help protect young people, called Help Save The Next Girl. It is their hope that other people can avoid similar situations that endangered Morgan.

The Harrington family’s appeals helped Virginia adopt a system of using familial DNA to aid investigations. They are also pushing for legislation that would require local police to investigate campus crimes instead of just university police.
