President Obama, Clinton head fundraiser in McLean, Va.

On Sunday in McLean, Va., the current and former Democratic presidents, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, headlined their first joint fundraiser, pulling in an undetermined sum for President Obama’s reelection effort. “You guys get two presidents for one, which is a pretty good deal” President Obama told the crowd, prior to the dinner. The reception and dinner occurred at the home of Terry McAuliffe, a businessman, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and possible gubernatorial candidate next year. The reception drew about 500 people and tickets started at $1,000 per head.

Among those who attended the event were former Democratic governor and current U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine, U.S. Representative Jim Moran, D-Va., and state Senator Babara Favola, D-Arlington. Former President Clinton told the crowd Obama has “got an opponent who basically wants to do what they did before — on steroids.” Mocking Romney for calling Russia the United State’s biggest enemy, rather than al-Qaeda, President Obama said, “I didn’t know we were back in 1975.” Proceeds from the reception and dinner go to the Obama Victory Fund, a fundraising committee of Obama for America, the Democratic National Committee, and several state Democratic parties.
