Pedestrian struck and killed near Fort Belvoir

A man struck by a vehicle on U.S. 1 at Backlick Road in Fairfax County early Thursday morning is dead. According to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue, the accident occurred at approximately 4:50 a.m. All of the lanes of northbound U.S. 1/Richmond Highway after Backlick Road/Fort Belvoir Tulley Gate were closed by investigators. All of the closed lanes have reopened, however roads that feed into U.S. 1, including Beulah Road and Telegraph Road, remained congested late into the morning commute.
