In order to move his proposed transportation bill through the state senate, Governor Bob McDonnell now says he will compromise on plans to eliminate Virginia’s gas tax. McDonnell had proposed to replace the state’s 17.5 cent gas tax with an increase of .8% on the overall state sales tax.

On Monday McDonnell spoke to a news conference in McLean saying he is willing to compromise with a reduced gas tax or a slower phase-out period instead.
