Loudoun County weighs the numbers in bid for FBI

As Fairfax and Loudoun Counties vie for selection by the FBI for building a new headquarters, they should keep in mind the loss in potential tax revenue if the Bureau chooses land that is not already government owned. Loudoun County Board of Supervisors discussed the economic impact of hosting the new FBI compound last week, citing possible loss of highly taxable land. They reported almost $6m in opportunity cost if the FBI chooses to locate to land that could be taxed if sold to developers instead of the government. There are several locations of government owned land that the county would like to see selected.

The County’s bid for the FBI is more invested in the additional business, jobs, and residential opportunities such a large complex will attract.
