Gun give-back days to be held in Fairfax County
The Board of Supervisors in Fairfax County, Virginia is working with the Fairfax County Police Department to create a comprehensive gun give-back program. The project’s aim is to remove unwanted guns and other weapons from the street, in a safe, regulated manner that protects cooperating citizens as well as the general public. Board Chairwoman Sharon Bulova was inspired by the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, to make formal weapons give-back days a regular institution in Fairfax County. She has said that people need a safe place to bring guns from their homes and properties. County Police are working out the details of the project, including a policy decision of what to do with the guns once they are handed in. They plan to post progress reports on their website, and expect to have gun give-back days up and running in the next couple of weeks.
