Guard members return from Afghanistan
Roughly 150 Virginia National Guard members have returned to the U.S. after deployment in Afghanistan. Members of the Emporia-based 1710th Transportation Company, 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and 329th Regional Support Group were activated to federal duty on April 1, 2013 and deployed to Afghanistan in June 2013. They returned to the U.S. on Saturday. According to the Guard, the soldiers will spend one week to 10 days at Fort Hood in Texas for reintegration training, medical evaluation and administrative tasks to transition from federal active duty to traditional National Guard status. During their deployment, the soldiers conducted transportation support operation sat Kandahar Airfield.
