The U.S. Department of Agriculture will allocate about $20 million for three dam rehabilitation projects in Virginia. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack made the announcement in regards to the funding on Thursday. The Virginia projects are among 50 dam rehabilitation projects across the country that will receive funding in 2015. The work that has to be done on the Virginia dams include rehabilitation of the Mountain Run Dam No. 50 and Mountain Run Dam No. 11 in Culpeper County, and the Upper North River Dam No. 77 in Augusta County. All three dams will be brought up to code based on safety and design criteria. The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service also plans on conducting 100 dam assessments in thirteen states this year.
