Matthew Stafford receives long-term extension

The Detroit Lions have extended quarterback Matthew Stafford’s contract for another three years. Stafford announced the news on Twitter on Wednesday, saying, “Officially signed the deal! Thank you ford family! @kellybhall & I are happy to be in Detroit for at least 5 more! Love this team and city!” The quarterback still has two years and a team option on his contract.

The Lions also announced the news on Twitter, also posting a picture of the player signing the contract. The contract also awards Stafford $53 million according to ESPN.
