Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice won an appeal to have his indefinite suspension from the National Football League overturned this weekend. Rice was suspended in September in connection with a domestic abuse incident involving his wife (then-fiancée). The Ravens ended Rice’s contract on the same day of the suspension. The case has been highly publicized, after video of the incident, which occurred at an Atlantic City hotel, was released by TMZ. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has come under fire for the cover-up practices of the league, and unpopular reactions to other assault, battery and domestic abuse charges within the league. The appeal judge ruled that Goodell overstepped his remit by disciplining Rice a second time in September, after the original two-game suspension for the incident. Rice has not been signed to any team.
