Sebelius says that Obama was “blindsided” by the issues with healthcare website
Instances of the site crashing, and difficulties accessing various parts of the site, were immediate problems when the Obamacare website launched. In an interview with CNN, Kathleen Sebelius reported that President Obama was not aware of the early problems with the website, because nobody told him. It wasn’t until October 1, when the site officially launched, that the president was informed about the issues, said Sebelius.
In the interview conducted by Dr. Sanjey Gupta, Sebelius expressed the discontent of the Health and Human Services department over the health care website. “No one could be more frustrated than I am and the President,” she said. “We’re not at all satisfied with the workings of the website. We want it to be smooth and easy and let consumers compare plans.”
A team of tech experts is going to be brought in to address the problems, and Jeff Zients, acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, will be the team leader. Sebelius commented: “we want new eyes and ears. We want to make sure that we get all the questions on the table, that we get all the answers and accelerate the fix as quickly as possible.”
