Romney emphasizes middle ground in GOP debate

Republican nominee hopefuls met Tuesday night in Hanover, New Hampshire, in a continuing series of debates. Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney emphasized his moderate stance by stating he can work with Democrats. By placing him apart from his more conservative rivals, Romney hoped to draw independent voters and support should he go on to the general election. Just a few hours earlier, Romney received New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s endorsement.

Former pizza company executive Herman Cain came under fire for his touted “9-9-9” plan, which opponents criticized as not feasible and inadequate. Texas Gov. Rick Perry gave a subdued debate performance, but he still posed a threat to Romney. He promised to unveil an economic plan Friday.
