House Republicans voted Thursday against President Obama’s executive orders on immigration. The bill passed 219-197 in the Republican-majority chamber of Congress. Seven Republicans voted with Democrats against, and three Democrats voted for the bill. Obama has promised to veto the bill if it comes to him, and the Senate is not expected to pick up the bill. It will therefore probably have little legislative effect on its own, but sends a message of opposition to the orders, and moving forward with immigration reform and other upcoming votes. December 11 is the deadline for a new government-funding measure to avoid a possible government deadline.
