President Barack Obama’s campaign in the next week will redouble its efforts to inspire women voters, as Republicans continue to detach themselves from Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin, after he made controversial comments about women, “legitimate rape,” and abortion. On Friday, the Obama campaign will release a Web video featuring several women who say they have left the GOP because of the party’s antiabortion stance.
Also, Democrats will hold a “Women Vote 2012 Summit” in Las Vegas on Saturday. Next week, Obama supporters and several Democratic congresswomen will head to Philadelphia, Richmond, Cleveland, Tampa, Manchester, N.H., and Raleigh, N.C., to speak about reproductive rights and women’s health. The tour has been dubbed as the “Romney/Ryan: Wrong For Women.” According to a recent poll done by The Washington Post and the Kaiser Family Foundation, polls show that 53 percent of female registered voters are supporting President Obama, compared to 39 percent supporting Mitt Romney. Male voters are split evenly, with 46 percent supporting each candidate.
