Ted Cruz, the Republican candidate for president, has achieved an enormous upset, defeating Donald Trump in the Iowa caucuses. Trump had been seemingly dubbed the winner by the press, however, Iowa voters proved the media wrong. In his victory speech, Cruz vehemently stated that the next president “will not be chosen by the media…[or]the Washington establishment.” He continued, “Our rights don’t come from the Republican Party…or even the Tea Party, but they come from our creator.”
He congratulated his over 800,000 contributors whom he says gave an average contribution of $67. Conventional politics of campaigning on the ground in small communities was Cruz’s style of garnering voters. To the contrary, Trump flew into larger cities and gave large rallies, skipping smaller venues and that strategy, as well as skipping the Fox debate, might have cost him the election.
