Speaker of the House Paul Ryan called Wednesday’s sit-in to protest inaction on gun laws a “publicity stunt” by Democratic lawmakers, saying that House liberals were more concerned with making headlines than solving the problem. “This is nothing more than a publicity stunt,” Ryan told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room.” “This is not about a solution to a problem. This is about trying to get attention.” Maryland Democratic Rep. Chris Van Hollen said Ryan’s comments were “disrespectful to the nation” and that “The speaker should come forward with his own proposals.”
