POLITICS – Donald Trump calls Pope Francis “disgraceful”; Pope: Trump “is not Christian”
During his visit to Mexico yesterday, Pope Francis addressed the “humanitarian crisis” that has led Mexican immigrants to cross the border into the United States. The Pope urged the U.S. to address the crisis while returning to Rome from Mexico. When asked about Donald Trumps threat to build a wall to keep Mexicans out of the U.S., the Pope replied, “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the gospel.” Trump, on hearing the Pope’s remarks issued a statement calling the Pope “disgraceful”. “No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith,” said Trump. “If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been president.”
