Perry, despite attack speech, once supported federal aid

Texas Governor Rick Perry, in his presidential campaign kickoff, attacked the idea of deficit stimulus spending which is a complete 360 from what Perry argued in 2003. According to 2005 report, lobbyists under Perry secured $1.2 billion in temporary state fiscal relief to Texas through Medicaid.

Besides the money earned through Medicaid, lobbyists under the watchful eye of Perry also secured millions for the Texas state treasury. This is a far cry from Perry’s campaign kickoff speech when he stated, “Washington’s insatiable desire to spend our children’s inheritance on failed stimulus plans and other misguided economic theories have given us record debt and left us with far too many unemployed.”
