Obamacare enrollment deadline extended to Christmas Eve

The deadline for enrollment in Obamacare was originally scheduled for Monday, December 23, but due to the influx of visitors to the health care website on Monday, the deadline has been extended to December 24. “We recognize that many have chosen to make their final decisions on today’s deadline and we are committed to making sure they can do so,” said Julie Bataille, spokeswoman for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. “Anticipating high demand and the fact that consumers may be enrolling from multiple time zones, we have taken steps to make sure that those who select a plan through tomorrow will get coverage for Jan. 1.”

“Health plans will continue to do everything they can to help consumers through the enrollment process and mitigate potential confusion or disruption caused by all of these last minute changes to the rules and deadlines,” added Robert Zirkelbach, spokesman for the trade group America’s Health Insurance Plans.

President Obama even signed up for a bronze plan this past weekend, and a White House official says the president’s enrollment demonstrates that he “is one of the 85% of Americans who gets his health insurance through his employer and, like previous presidents, is privileged to receive health care from the military.”
