Obama says GOP blocks jobs vote

0

President Barack Obama singled out several GOP leaders for refusing to take up his jobs bill. The president singled out House Speaker John Boehner, Senate Republican Mitch McConnell and Re. Eric Cantor, saying that they were impeding him by refusing to even put the jobs bill up for a debate. In response, McConnell tried to push for a quick Senate vote on the bill. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid objected, saying that they should not push for a vote without a proper debate.

House and Senate Republicans criticized Obama’s move, calling it an ultimatum. Obama argued that it is Republicans who refuse to work with him. The issue is expected to be a source of conflict in upcoming weeks and amid Obama’s re-election bid.
