Meanwhile, D.C. voters are primed to vote for the first time ever for an elected attorney general. The position is intended to act as a check on the power of the mayoral office. Across the country, thousands of local politicians are running unopposed, with fewer spots highly contested. The balance in Congress is uneasy, and many expect the Republicans to gain majority control of Congress.
