The Republican Party gained the six seats needed to gain control of the Senate early in the night as polling results began to roll in, and they didn’t stop there. The GOP now controls both chambers of Congress, which it has not done since 2006. A few districts are still reporting figures for all races, but the Congressional majority has been called. Results show a Republican majority of 52 seats to Democratic 45 in the Senate, and 243 Republican seats in the house to Democratic 175. Nearly one third of the Senate seats and the entire House were up for election. Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell will become the Senate Majority Leader.
