McCain discusses running for 6th term
Arizona Sen. John McCain says he is “seriously” considering running for another term in 2016. The Republican senator will be 80-years-old when he is able to run for re-election.
While speaking on KFYI-AM, a Phoenix radio station, McCain told a listener: “I’m seriously thinking about maybe giving another opportunity for you to vote for me in a few years from now. I’m seriously giving that a lot of thought. I’m certainly getting a lot of encouragement from our business community who’s overwhelmingly upset about what we did in shutting down the government because of what it did to their businesses and Arizona’s economy.”
McCain was part of the bipartisan group that helped form the deal for the end of the government shutdown, and he has spoken unfavorably about Sen. Ted Cruz, a favorite of Tea Party Republicans. It is expected that the impact that the shutdown had on business leaders will lead to less support for Tea Party members, and a possible win for primary GOP candidates.
