House GOP disagrees on immigration modification
An immigration reform bill passed in the Senate has split the House as Republicans were open to compromising with Democrats, but wish to create their own version of the bill. The biggest point of disagreement is whether to give illegal immigrants a chance at eventually becoming American citizens. The Republican caucus was divided on the issue, but most of the members expressed a need to construct legislation to show their support of Hispanic Americans.
According to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, children of illegal immigrants should be considered legal citizens and not be held accountable for their parents’ decisions. Cantor and House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte are working on a bill centered on issues concerning children.
