Giffords informed of victims in shooting spree months after attack

Months after the violent Arizona shooting spree in which Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head, her husband informed her of the six that perished in the same attack, including her closest aid. Her family and friends waited to tell her in an effort to shield Giffords from the truth while she was in such a fragile state.

Giffords learned that her close aide Gabe Zimmerman; close friend U.S. District Judge John Roll and 9-year-old Christina-Taylor Green were all killed in the attack. The news came days before her Aug. 1 trip to Washington to vote on the federal debt ceiling.
