Congress divided over sending aid to Egypt

Some members of Congress are considering withholding some of their annual aid package to Egypt, if the country’s crisis isn’t settled soon. While President Obama’s administration is showing support to the country’s military, some members of Congress are hesitant to give the country the financial aid package totaling $1.5 billion without a restored civilian government.

On Monday, the administration said they will continue to support Egypt’s army after it took over the civilian government for the second time in 29 months. The money given to the Egyptian military is because of an agreement between the countries which the United States has honored since Egypt’s peace treaty with Israel in 1979.
