As the Occupy Wall Street protest entered its 18th day, similar movements across the country sprung up. Demonstrators played drums in Chicago’s financial district. Boston, St. Louis, Los Angeles and Portland all saw similar protests. The movement began with younger people and college students worried about their job prospects, but recently laid off middle class workers have also joined the cause.
One thing that has helped the movement gain momentum in other cities is the internet. On the microblogging site Twitter, #occupywallstreet was a trending topic. Streaming videos of groups airing their concerns have cropped up online. Some organizers have even set up a website for the Occupy Wall Street movement.
