Nevada couple receive death threats after black bear is euthanized

Richard and Adrienne Evans of Nevada contacted wildlife officials when a black bear was proving problematic. The bear was trapped and euthanized on Thursday, and since then, the couple has received death threats from people who object to the killing. “People have been giving me death threats,” Adrienne Evans said.

The 260-pound bear has made several attempts to break in the Evans’ car in the past, and finally made it in on Tuesday, prompting the couple to alert officials. Adrienne Evans denies having food in her car when the bear broke in, but claims to have proof that a neighbor feeds the bear nightly.

“The bear was so used to people, it was becoming dangerous,” said Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy. “This was unfortunately an example of a bear that had to be euthanized.”

However, many people disagree with the decision, and notes being sent to the couple say things like: “You’ll be struck dead [and]if that bear dies you will have to leave Incline.”

“Emotions are going to be high as long as they are killing bears,” said Ann Bryant, founder of the Bear League.
