NATIONAL – U.S. closes slave labor loophole

0

For the past decade, the federal government has allowed some imports from companies which derive their products from slave labor. However, the U.S. Senate has decided this will not continue by voting to close a loophole in the Tariff Act of1930. The loophole was closed by a landslide bipartisan vote of 75-20. Senator Ron Wyden stated, “The old system leaves the door open to child or slave labor if it’s used in a product that is not made here in the U.S.– that system absolutely must end, and it will.”
