The Supreme Court is reviewing a significant Second Amendment case, United States v. Rahimi, which will determine if individuals with domestic violence restraining orders can be barred from owning firearms. Zackey Rahimi, involved in multiple violent incidents, was convicted of possessing firearms while under such an order.
The Fifth Circuit Court, referencing the Supreme Court’s decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, ruled that restricting Rahimi’s gun rights violated the Second Amendment. The Biden administration argues this endangers domestic violence victims, as historically, such restrictions have been crucial for safety. A ruling is expected next year, with potentially wide-reaching implications for gun control laws and victim protections.
