Natalee Holloway could be declared dead

Natalee Holloway, who was 18 when she went missing in Aruba in 2005, could be declared dead. An Alabama judge will consider the request filed by Holloway’s father on Thursday. Holloway was on a graduation trip to Aruba when she vanished. She was last seen with Joran van der Sloot, was detained twice but never charged.

Holloway’s mother opposes the petition to have Natalee declared dead, saying in a statement she “will always hope and pray for Natalee’s safe return.” Dave Holloway, on the other hand, “is seeking closure for his family.” Van der Sloot on Wednesday pleaded guilty to the murder of Peruvian Stephany Flores in 2010. Investigators believe Flores found something related to the Holloway case on van der Sloot’s computer.
