Lowe’s receives backlash for pulling ads from Muslim show
Lowe’s Home Improvement faced criticism upon its decision to pull ads from a reality show about American Muslims. The retail giant halted its advertising on TLC’s “All-American Muslim,” a show which follows the lives of five families in a suburb that has a large Muslim and Arab-American population. The decision was made after conservative Florida Family Association complained, calling the program “propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda’s clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values.”
California State Senator Ted Lieu criticized Lowe’s decision, calling it “un-American” and “naked religious bigotry.” “The show is about what it’s like to be a Muslim in America, and it touches on the discrimination they sometimes face. And that kind of discrimination is exactly what’s happening here with Lowe’s,” Lieu said. Lieu said he hoped Lowe’s would make an apology for their judgment, and reinstate the ads.
