George Zimmerman released from jail on bond

George Zimmerman, 28, was released from Florida jail at midnight on Monday after posting $150,000 bond as he awaits trial in the fatal shooting case of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman was calmly escorted out of the John E. Polk Correctional Facility (JEPCF) at the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office by a man identified as his possible bail bondsman, according to ABC News. The former neighborhood watchman posted bond and was fitted with an electronic monitoring device prior to release, according to a statement from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Zimmerman was seen with a man accompanying him getting into a white BMW sport utility vehicle.

Zimmerman is required to wear a GPS device, which can give immediate identification of an offender’s whereabouts anywhere in the U.S., at any given time, until he is due back in court for the trial. The 28-year-old is charged with second-degree murder for the February 26, fatal shooting of the Florida teen, Trayvon Martin, who was unarmed. If convicted, Zimmerman could spend the remainder of his life behind bars.
