Bradley Manning’s sentence, if he is found guilty, will be reduced
Judge Colonel Denise Lind has decided that Private First Class Bradley Manning, should he be found guilty and given any sentence less than life in prison, will have his sentence reduced by 112 days. This reduction is meant to be compensation for what Lind determined was unduely harsh treatment during his detainment. Manning, who is largely responsible for the notorious “Wikileaks,” is facing 22 charges, including aiding the enemy.
The judge agreed to reduce the sentence based on a day-per-day ratio. Manning’s sentence will be reduced by one day for every day he, as determined by Lind, recieved unduely harsh treatment. Lind rejected the defense’s motion to dismiss all the charges and to reduce any sentence short of life in prison by 10 days for every day of the almost 9 months he was detained.
Manning’s lawyers are currently working on a proposed plea involving less serious charges and a prison term of at least 16 years.
