$400 million lottery ticket sold in South Carolina
In Lexington, South Carolina, one lucky winner hit the Powerball jackpot of $400 million. The identity of the winner is a mystery, and has not yet come forward to claim the prize. In fact, South Carolina does not require lottery winners to expose their identity, so the public may never really know who the mystery man/woman is. But we do know that they were the number 1 in the 1-in-174,223,510 odds, with the winning combination of 7, 10, 22, 32, 35 and Powerball 19.
Director of the South Carolina Lottery, Paula Harper Bethea, said the ticket was sold at a Murphy gas station on Wednesday afternoon. That station will get $50,000 for selling the ticket, but the actual winner may not get anything if they don’t claim the money in 180 days.
Bethea also said she would advise the winner to put the ticket someplace safe and contact a lawyer or financial planner. “This is a life-changing event. There are a lot of zeroes that this person or these persons are going to get,” she said.
This winning ticket was the fourth largest lottery price in United States’ history, the largest being the $665 million in the Mega Millions game in 2012.
