A Hyattsville woman was shot by police after she threatened an officer with a knife.
Around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday officers were responding to a call regarding a “mental welfare check.” They entered the basement of the home where they encountered an uncompliant woman who began waving a knife in the officers’ direction.
One officer hit her with a stun gun, but her excessive layers of clothing shielded its effect. Another officer then shot the woman in the chest.
She was taken to a local hospital for surgery.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
