According to investigators, roughly 48 hours following the disappearance of Maryland woman Robyn Gardner in Aruba, her companion, Gary Giordano, attempted to collect a $1.5 million in accidental-death insurance policy that he took out on her. An anonymous person who did not have the authorization to release this information informed authorities that Giordano bought the insurance simply for the couples’ vacation to the Caribbean island.

Giordano is now detained in Aruba. The body of Gardner, 35, was never recovered. It was assumed that she died while snorkeling.
