Shooting occurs at barricaded house

A 20-year veteran of the police department has barricaded himself into his home in west Baltimore. A woman was shot before the standoff began, but the officer’s son, who was located inside of the home, has been released.

Officer James Smith barricaded himself inside of his home after releasing his son on Tuesday evening. Police are working toward getting Smith to surrender without any violence.

The incident started around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday after a woman was shot. Authorities do not know what started the incident. The woman was taken to Shock Trauma Center, and local residents were told to remain inside of their homes.
