In a press conference on Monday night, police identified the Prince George’s police officer who was killed while chasing down a suspect on Interstate 95 in Beltsville. Adrian Morris, 23, died after he was ejected from the cruiser, which was traveling southbound on the highway shortly before 1 p.m. The young officer lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch, according to Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark Magaw.
Morris was investigating vehicle break-ins in Laurel. His partner, who was in the cruiser with him, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The name of Morris’ partner has not been released, but he was also in his 20s. Morris, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, gained his American citizenship in 2009. The 23-year-old became an officer after he volunteered for five years as a police explorer. “Police Officer Morris represented the very best that our agency has to offer,” said Magaw. “He wanted to be a Prince George’s County police officer from a very young age, and it showed in all of his interactions with the community.”
