Prince George’s Co. prepares to celebrate War of 1812

Hundreds of re-enactors, vendors, artists, and historic demonstrators will gather in order to commemorate the British march across Prince George’s County and the Battle of Bladensburg. The commemoration will occur in several events throughout this week. To learn about Frances Scott Key’s life, a free lecture will take place at Riversdale House Museum on Tuesday at 7 p.m., on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery join dignitaries to unveil the new historical marker and donate of hundreds of books to Maryland schools, on Thursday, at 6 p.m. attend the “War of 1812 Night at the Bowie Baysox” on Ballpark Road, a BBQ dinner while “the British” set up camp before battle at the Riversdale House Museum on Friday at 6:30 p.m, on Saturday at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park, a dedication of the new “Undaunted in Battle” monument with the Marine Band, Sea Services Color Guard, dignitaries, and wreath laying and on Sunday go “Beyond the Battle” with open houses, a trolley tour, boat rides, and the “Bladensburg Races 5K at 8 a.m.
