O’Malley may once again pursue repeal of death penalty

Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley may try once more to repeal the death penalty in his state. His effort to do so four years ago failed, although he was able to pass a bill that limited its use. Maryland lawmakers return to work next week, and just last month O’Malley met with NAACP President Benjamin Jealous, who asked for the governor’s support against the death penalty. Lawmakers such as Senate President Mike Miller have said that if O’Malley can get the support he needs from other senators, he will most likely pursue the initiative again in 2013.
