Mother accepts diploma for daughter killed in shooting

The mother of a girl who was shot and killed in her home accepted her daughter’s high school diploma on Tuesday. Amber Stanley was shot multiple times in her bed; the shooter kicked down the door of the home in Upper Marlboro last August.

Stanley’s mother, Irma Gaither, accepted the diploma during the Charles H. Flowers High School graduation. Cheers were heard throughout the crowd. Stanley was expected to graduate with honors and had dreams of attending Harvard University to become a doctor.

Stanley’s family hopes that her story will sway anyone with information about the shooter to come forward.
