Medical marijuana bill passed by lawmakers
On Monday, the Senate passed a House of Delegates bill 42-2, approving the enactment of medical marijuana programs in medical research centers. The bill will now be sent to Gov. Martin O’Malley for approval.
O’Malley has not stated whether he will sign the bill, but his state health secretary has expressed full his support. O’Malley also has the right to suspend the program at any time if prosecution of state employees were to ensue.
Patients will not have access to marijuana for several years, but it puts Maryland in the running to eventually provide it.
